Local Food – Portlandia Video

Another great skit from Portlandia. We feel local food has lots of advantages – from increased likelihood of a favorable potassium sodium ratio to freshness to less fuel use in shipping. Surprisingly, Carrie and Fred miss these points, but point out some important factors we didn't realize. They are quite serious about their local food. Prepare to take notes so you will be prepared the next time you eat out.

Locally produced food is becoming more and more common. More restaurants and groceries are providing local food. Although not mentioned in the video, this means less need for preservatives, especially sodium. It means the food is more likely to have a favorable potassium sodium ratio. In the past it was almost impossible to get a high ratio meal eating out. Although still difficult, it is possible at some restaurants today.
