    Grain products can provide low potassium foods for those needing to be on a low potassium diet. Noodles, macaroni, spaghetti, and pasta can provide a low potassium, low sodium source of food. Rice can be a great staple in such a diet. Couscous is another good choice that can be used as a base, much like rice.

    The prior post showed a table of the potassium and macronutrient values of some baked goods with a favorable potassium to sodium ratio. They had a low potassium content as well as being low in sodium. Almost all baked goods will be low in potassium, but high in sodium unless labeled low sodium. They can be a good source of nutrition for those on a low potassium diet.

    For most people a diet with many high potassium foods has a lot of benefit.  It can decrease hypertension, reduce the chance of kidney stones, and help maintain bone density.  However, there are some people who require a low potassium diet.  They will usually know they have to restrict their potassium because they will be under the care of a doctor.  The doctor will tell them of the need for a low potassium diet, and either the doctor or a dietitian will tell them how to stay on one.
